Resting metabolic rate is increased in hypertensive patients with overweight or obesity: Potential mechanisms

چکیده
The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether differences in body composition, pharmacological treatment, and physical activity explain the increased resting metabolic rate (RMR) impaired insulin sensitivity hypertension. Resting blood pressure, RMR (indirect calorimetry), composition (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry), (accelerometry), maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) (ergospirometry), (Matsuda index) were measured 174 patients (88 men 86 women; 20–68 years) with overweight or obesity. Hypertension (HTA) present 51 (58%) 42 women (49%) (p = .29). 6.9% higher hypertensives than normotensives (1777 ± 386 1663 383 kcal d−1, p .044). double product (systolic pressure × heart rate) 18% hypertensive normotensive < .001). observed absolute non-significant after adjusting for total lean mass fat (estimated means: 1702 CI: 1656–1750; 1660 1611–1710 groups, respectively, .19, HTA sex interaction .37). Lean mass, product, age variables predictive value patients. Insulin lower patients, but these disappeared accounting VO2max. In summary, hypertension is associated reduced sensitivity. explained by an elevated myocardial consumption due combined between subjects.

Resting metabolic rate and substrate use in obesity hypertension.
There is substantial evidence that obesity is a prime risk factor for the development of hypertension. Although hyperinsulinemia and an increased activity of the sympathetic nervous system have been implicated in the pathogenesis of "obesity hypertension," their effects on energy metabolism have not been studied thus far. In the present study, we therefore examined resting metabolic rate (RMR) ...
متن کاملElevated resting heart rate is associated with the metabolic syndrome
BACKGROUND Increased resting heart rate (RHR) may be associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity. Our aim was to explore the possibility that increased RHR is associated with the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) in a sample of apparently healthy individuals and those with cardiovascular risk factors. METHODS We performed a cross-sectional analysis in a large sample of appare...
متن کاملResting metabolic rate is an important predictor of serum adiponectin concentrations: potential implications for obesity-related disorders.
BACKGROUND Little is known about the regulation of adiponectin. Animal studies suggest local regulation by adipocytokines or alterations in energy expenditure, and studies in humans suggest regulation by alcohol intake and ethnicity. OBJECTIVE To identify regulators of adiponectin in humans, we measured resting metabolic rate (RMR), serum adiponectin, glucose, insulin, triacylglycerol, alcoho...
متن کاملResting metabolic rate is lower in women than in men.
This study examined gender differences in resting metabolic rate (RMR) across a broad age spectrum after controlling for differences in body composition and aerobic fitness. Three hundred twenty-eight healthy men (17-80 yr) and 194 women (18-81 yr) volunteers were characterized for RMR, body composition, physical activity, peak oxygen consumption (peak VO2), anthropometrics, and energy intake. ...

despite reports on association between overweight/obesity among women and household food insecurity (fi) in developed countries, such association is not evident in developing countries. this study aimed to assess the association between household fi and weight status in adult females in tehran, iran.in this cross-sectional study, 418 households were selected through systematic cluster sampling ...
